San Diego Met Family Updates
Updated Information (7/28/21)
Welcome Back Letter
Hello incoming Met Families!
We hope you had a restful summer. We are excited to begin the new school year and be entirely in-person with our pre-pandemic schedule. As most of you know, our previous principal, Melissa Agudelo, has moved to Lincoln High School to be co-principal there. We will miss her a lot and wish her luck. If you would like to share an appreciation or well-wishes with her, please feel free to email her (email@example.com).
We are very excited to announce that on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 the board of education announced the new principal of the San Diego Met, Robert Fung. He has a long history with the Met and Big Picture Learning, having been the Met’s Internship Coordinator for five years, as well as Business Teacher and an Advisor. After spending the past several years in leadership roles at other schools, Robert is excited to rejoin the Met and continue our vision of supporting and personalizing educational experiences and opportunities for one student at a time.
The First Day:
The first day of school for SD MET, due to our college alignment calendar, will be Wednesday, August 4th. Classes will start at 8:30 am with an early dismissal time of 1:15 pm. Please have your child meet outside the front of the K-200 building in the courtyard. For the first, short week we will be running modified school days to include community building and orientation activities each morning. Students will receive their class schedules on Monday morning, August 9th 2021.
Students and staff must wear masks inside regardless of their immunization status per Mesa college guidelines and CDPH guidelines.
Students may park in the lower lot in the student parking spots for free without being ticketed for the Fall 2021 semester.
Students who are taking in person Mesa College classes must upload their completed vaccination card to the mysdccd website prior to 8/6/2021. Student will be dropped from their in person college classes if this is not completed. Here is the link: https://www.sdccd.edu/students/covid19/
If your student is NOT taking in-person Mesa classes, he/she DOES NOT need to be vaccinated for Covid to come to the campus.
Students should bring their lunch/drinks/snacks to school. Mesa College currently doesn’t have any food venues open. They will open some food venue (undecided which ones) once the college classes begin on 8/23/21. If students qualify for free and reduced lunch, those will be available at the MET.
Internships are returning this year! Internships run Tuesday and Thursdays. While your student does not have internship, he/she will need to come to school on those days to work on their résumé and meet with their advisor to find an internship. Exact times for this will be announced next week when school starts.
Procedure for student absences: Parent/guardian please e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call (619) 388-2299 to report an absence. Please include your child’s name, grade and reason for the absence.
Procedure for student leaving school early: Parent/guardian please send your child to school with a signed note stating that they will need to leave early (the time and reason). Please have your child stop by the office prior to school to turn in the note for a blue slip. Your child will then show his/her/their teacher the blue slip (at the time of his/her/their departure) and he/she/they will then stop by the office to sign out prior to departing from school.
